Planning a trip to Las Vegas in August? You better buckle up because August is quite buzzing with summer fun and sports fans, especially with NFL season starting up!

With pool party season in full swing, lots of highly-anticipated concerts and shows, and football viewing parties happening this month, it’ll be hard to ignore the high energy and summertime vibes pumping throughout the entire city of Las Vegas.

Use this guide to discover all that the month of August brings to Las Vegas!

August Weather In Las Vegas

  • Average Temps in August: high of 99° F, low of 76° F
  • Average Rainfall: 0.4 inches

It’s another scorcher of a month in August. There’s no getting around it — IT IS HOT. Daily highs run in the 100’s °F, rarely falling below 93°F or exceeding 110°F. Ouch. We hope you’re incorporating indoor activities or at least some pool time in your itinerary — you’ll need a way to cool down from all the heat!

If you’re planning to do outdoor activities in August, try not to. But if you must, be sure to keep an eye on the weather and pack accordingly (sunhats, cold water, sunscreen, electrolytes, etc.). You’ll want to do outdoor activities early in the morning (before 8am) or after the sun sets.

Kick off the start of the NFL season

MGM Grand Sports Bar
TAP Sports Bar – MGM Grand

August brings the start of the NFL season in Las Vegas! With countless sportsbooks, like the massive one at Circa Resort & Casino and buzzing sports bars such as the one at Durango Casino & Resort, a circular bar that provides sports fans with the utmost immersive viewing experience!

You can even try to catch a game of the local NFL team as they play at Allegiant Stadium.

Many sportsbooks and bars offer special happy hours, watch parties, and promotions to celebrate the start of the NFL season. Here are a few spots to check out:

Head to Plaza Hotel for their summer fireworks show

Plaza Hotel and Casino Las Vegas

If you couldn’t make it to Vegas for the epic Fourth of July fireworks show, The Plaza Hotel will also be hosting weekly Friday fireworks shows all summer long, through the end of August.

Inspired by the fireworks shows at Disneyland, the Plaza’s Welcome to the Weekend Summer Friday Fireworks lights up the sky above downtown Las Vegas and be part of a festive summer block party atmosphere.

This means you’ll be graced with fireworks shows on Aug 2, Aug 9, Aug 16, Aug 23, and Aug 30.

You can catch the fireworks show from places like the hotel’s Carousel Bar. For a front-row viewing experience, join the viewing party at Plaza’s rooftop pool! Pool doors open at 7pm, fireworks go off at 9:15pm.

While you’re here, why not also play a game of bingo? We love Plaza Hotel because it’s the closest hotel to the Strip for old-fashioned bingo fun!

More Downtown Las Vegas fun:

Dive-In Movies at The Cosmopolitan

On Monday evenings (from May to September), the marquee at Boulevard Pool transforms into a colossal movie screen for its Dive-In Movies event, showing your favorite films high above The Las Vegas Strip! From classic films to modern blockbusters, take a dip or lounge poolside as you sip on handcrafted, movie-themed cocktails and enjoy creative movie snacks under the stars.

Doors open at 7PM, with the movie starting at 8PM, making for a perfect summer night out. Entrance is on Level 3 via the Boulevard Tower escalators, and tickets can be purchased online on The Cosmo’s website or at the North Bar at Boulevard Pool.

August 2024 Showings:

Oasis Cinema Club at Fontainebleau

Sunday nights are movie nights at Fontainebleau Las Vegas this spring and summer, as the Strip’s newest luxury resort and casino announces its inaugural Oasis Cinema Club series.

Kicking off May 5 to Sept. 1, hotel guests and Las Vegas locals can enjoy a lineup of classic comedies, blockbusters, and family favorites on an outdoor projection screen on the resort’s lavish Grand Pool Deck.

You can find the season’s movie schedule here.

See the seasonal displays at the Bellagio Conservatory

Bellagio Conservatory Summer

One must-see attraction in June is the Summer display at the Conservatory & Botanical Gardens. The 2024 Summer Display is called ‘Higher Love’ and runs from May 25, 2024 to August 24, 2024.

This season’s display is colorful and cute in every way possible. You’ve got larger-than-life flowers, hot air balloons, summer insects, and plants galore.

It’s giving World Fair-meets-Alice In Wonderland… is it not??? We absolutely love it!

Here’s more about the theme, per Bellagio’s site: “Whisk away into the summer of love as colorful hot-air balloons float throughout the air and experience the blossoming of vibrant florals. “Higher Love” is an artistic representation of summer and love inspired by world-renowned art and architecture. Each bed celebrates European nostalgia, universal love, and the timeless symbolism of nature’s beauty using breathtaking botanical artistry to create a romantic dreamscape.”

Attend a pool party

Perhaps the most exciting thing about summer is pool party season.

If your idea of an awesome daytime activity includes lounging around the pool, dancing to live music played by top DJs, drinking summer cocktails, and gorging on delicious (and rather expensive) poolside chicken tenders, then you’ll probably want to plan to hit up a day club on your Vegas trip!

Pool party season at the day clubs runs from April to the end of October. Encore Beach Club at Encore Las Vegas, Daylight at Mandalay Bay, Ayu Dayclub at Resorts World, TAO Beach Club at The Venetian, and WET Republic at MGM Grand are some of the most sought-after pool parties across the Strip.

If you want to live it up Vegas-style, book a cabana for the ultimate dayclub experience (if you’ve got the budget for it).

What does a cabana rental get you?

When you rent out a cabana at a dayclub, you’ll typically get exclusive access to a private shaded area with comfortable seating, including plush sofas and lounge chairs. You’ll also get dedicated waitstaff or hosts who provide exceptional personalized service, including bottle service and assistance with food orders. At some dayclubs, you’ll also find a flat-screen TV (for those of you who want to party and watch the game at the same time) and even water misters to keep you and your squad cool as cucumbers in the desert heat.

XS Night Swim

XS Nightclub at Wynn Las Vegas

If you’re a first-timer in Las Vegas, you absolutely have to experience XS Night Swim at the Wynn. Imagine the best elements of a high-energy nightclub combined with the luxury of an upscale pool party, all under the stars. XS Night Swim flips the script on a typical night out by bringing the party outside, right to the pool!

Instead of being packed inside a crowded dance floor (sweating your butt off in a suit and tie or in a cocktail dress), you get to dance poolside or even take a dip in the water, all while enjoying world-class DJ sets and light shows.

There is a different dress code for these Night Swim events — feel free to wear pool attire or nightlife attire. Everyone is encouraged to jump in the water! Ladies, you can even skip the heels if you want!

The atmosphere is nothing short of electric. It’s a unique blend of music, luxury, and fun that you won’t find anywhere else. Plus, you get to cool off in the pool, which is a refreshing twist, especially during those hot Vegas nights.

You can find the latest schedule of events here. The Night Swim events at XS Nightclub are labeled as Night Swim, and the series will run from April 28th to September 29th this year.

Experience a high-tech show at The Sphere

If you’ve driven on the highways of Las Vegas, chances are you’ve seen The Sphere. With the weather heating up so much this month, spending a few hours indoors with air-conditioning will be a dream.

The Sphere Experience is a two-part multi-sensory experience lasting approximately two hours. In all honesty, it’s two hours of immersive amazement.

Again, there are two parts to the experience. First, you’ll get to explore The Atrium. There’s a 360-degree avatar capture, a mesmerizing 50-foot holographic installation, and a few other cool tech features.

Then, brace yourself for an immersive cinematic experience unlike anything you’ve ever seen with Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Postcard from Earth.’ This specially commissioned film is a sci-fi portrait of our planet, leveraging Sphere’s cutting-edge technologies to transport you to new worlds without ever leaving your seat.

Enjoy Durango’s swanky new pool and cocktail bar

Durango Bel Aire Backyard

Bel-Aire Backyard, Durango Casino’s brand-spankin’-new backyard pool area, invites guests to indulge in the ultimate poolside oasis. With more than 65,000 square feet, the backyard will host live DJ sets from noon to sunset from Thursdays through Sundays as well as Friday sunset parties.

The 7,200-square-foot pool houses 13 cabanas, 46 daybeds, and nearly 60 chaise lounges — set just above the water. The whole venue is a vibe, instantly transporting you into hip, ritzy, and glam part of Los Angeles. It almost feels like a movie set!

If you get hungry, The Backyard Grill caters to the pool area with many creative menu items like miso sea bass lettuce cups, watermelon and cucumber salad, crab and avocado salad, and sushi dishes.

On Sundays, you’ll find their epic Poolside brunch with a high-energy party atmosphere, perfect for those of you celebrating birthdays or bachelorette parties!

Explore AREA15

When night falls, it’s time to get immersive at AREA15. AREA15 has got to be one of the coolest additions to Las Vegas, like ever!

This 200,000-square-foot immersive art collective is buzzing with all things creative and imaginative. Throw an ax or two, play games at an arcade bar, wander through a ‘supermarket’ that makes you question reality, take in high-tech / colorful art installations, or explore one of the many virtual reality experiences.

From retro to futuristic to totally trippy, there’s an experience for everyone at AREA15. Engage with the exhibits, dive into virtual reality experiences, or simply wander through and take in the eclectic environment. The AREA15 world is your oyster!

Learn more about the current exhibits here (many of them require separate tickets). If special events and concerts are what you’re after, check out their events calendar to see what’s happening during the dates of your trip to Vegas.

See a Las Vegas show

Being outside in Vegas is hard with the desert sun beaming down all day. And one can only gamble and pool so much during the day. The summer months are the perfect time to stay indoors and catch some of the shows the city is famous for!

Las Vegas has a world-class theater scene. From burlesque to magic, Cirque de Soleil to comedy, there is a show for every type of person and every sort of budget. And the best part is, there’s a show happening every single night in Vegas.

We recommend these premium shows for your visit this month:

Awakening – The Wynn’s brand-new spectacular production featuring fantastical creatures, dazzling visuals, compelling narrative, and a touch of lighthearted comedy.

Absinthe – Caesars Palace’s daring and provocative Las Vegas show that combines jaw-dropping acrobatics, risqué comedy, and awe-inspiring feats of strength and agility in an immersive circus-style setting.

“O” at Bellagio: Another mesmerizing Cirque du Soleil show, “O” combines water, acrobatics, and theatrical performances to create a unique and romantic experience.

You can explore Las Vegas’ top show offerings here.

Tips For Visiting Las Vegas In August

  • August in Vegas is swelteringly hot outdoors. It’s not humid hot, but it is dry heat. Luckily, most places pump the AC all summer long. To stay cool, staying inside is your best bet. You might need to carry a light jacket with you when indoors!
  • If you’re going to walk The Strip, plan to take breaks every 10-15 minutes to prevent overheating. Luckily, most of the casino hotels are connected to each other so you can walk from hotel to hotel without having to spend too much time under the blazing sun!
  • If you plan on doing a lot of paid attractions, Go City can save you money on multiple attractions with their All-Inclusive Pass or Explorer Pass.
  • Be sure to pack a pair of comfortable travel shoes that can handle lots of mileage and keep your feet blister-free.
  • Traffic on the Las Vegas Strip is usually bad at all times of the year, so plan to leave earlier if you have reservations that require you to be somewhere at a specific time.
  • Getting around by rideshare and taxi are equally as popular in Vegas. A taxi can even be cheaper than Uber/Lyft during peak hours, while an Uber/Lyft is cheaper during off-peak hours.
