Overall Winner: It’s a tie.

In our deep-dive analysis below, The Wynn won three categories (rooms, amenities + entertainment options, and user reviews), while The Venetian also takes the cake in three categories (location, restaurants, price).

As you’ll discover, both hotels are top-notch options. One hotel is better for some scenarios while the other is better for other situations.

If you ask us, we like Wynn Las Vegas for solo / couples trips and The Venetian / Palazzo for larger group trips.

The Venetian Resort Las Vegas is a 5-star luxury hotel that officially opened in 1999, designed to replicate the beauty and grandeur of Venice, Italy.

With the addition of The Palazzo Tower in 2008, the combined properties have more than 7,000 suites, making this “under one roof” complex the largest hotel in the world.

Then, there’s Wynn Las Vegas and its sister tower, Encore. People (including us!) LOVE staying at Wynn and Encore. The amount of luxury squeezed into one resort complex is hard to beat when it comes to the Vegas Strip… and maybe even worldwide.

With 24 Five-Star awards across all their hotels, spas and restaurants, Wynn Resorts holds more Five-Star designations than any independent hotel company in the world.

The “better” hotel will depend mostly on:

  • Who you’re traveling to Las Vegas with (solo, as a couple, as a larger group)
  • Whether you have a budget or not
  • Where you plan on walking to on foot (Do you plan on walking to The Sphere? To other nearby hotels?)
  • Whether you have a car or not (one hotel charges for parking; the other still offers free parking)

Let’s talk about it!

The Venetian vs. Wynn: Rooms

(For an apples-to-apples comparison, we’ll be comparing the resorts’ standard suites here.)

Both The Venetian and Wynn have top-notch rooms, and they stand out for very different reasons!

The Venetian/Palazzo has some of the largest standard suites on the entire Las Vegas Strip (their rooms are more than double the size of other hotel rooms).

At the Wynn, the interior decor and stylish (and surprisingly functional) bathrooms of the rooms are hard to beat.

Let’s take a look at The Venetian first.

Rooms at The Venetian / Palazzo

We’ll look at a Standard Suite. These rooms come with either 1 king bed or 2 queen beds, plus a living room with a full-size sofa-sleeper and a spacious Italian marble bathroom. Within the bathrooms, you’ll find a double-sink vanity and a glass-enclosed shower separate from the soaking tub.

If you opt for the 2-queen room, you can actually accommodate 6 people because of that extra sofa bed.

A standard suite that can fit up to six people? That’s unheard of on the Strip! In fact, this is the #1 reason why we love The Venetian Resort for large groups.

Traveling with more than six and need another room? Both The Venetian and The Palazzo offer adjoining rooms, which means you can leave the connecting door open and essentially hang out together the whole time.

Standard Suites: What most people will end up booking. These rooms have a sleeping area, a living room with a full-size sofa-sleeper, and a spacious Italian marble bathroom.

  • Standard 1-King Suites at The Venetian are 650 sq ft.
  • Standard 2-Queen Suites at The Venetian are 750 sq ft.
  • Standard 1-King Suites at The Palazzo are 720 sq ft.
  • Standard 2-Queen Suites at The Palazzo are 720 sq ft.

Rooms at Wynn Las Vegas

When it comes to resort rooms, Wynn Resorts takes things to the next level in terms of luxury.

In addition to high-end amenities and the softest, crispest bedding ever, Wynn rooms have elements that make you feel like you’re actually in a home rather than a hotel room.

The hotel is constantly upgrading, and Wynn recently unveiled a $200 million renovation of 2,700 guestrooms in Wynn and Wynn Tower Suites.

We were blown away when we saw what they did with the rooms! Prior to the renovations, the rooms used to be off-white/cream-colored in theme. Now, the rooms feature custom-designed furniture and wood accent walls that add a much more warm and inviting feel.

You can customize the lighting to suit your mood, and the bedside iPad controls everything from the TV to the drapes, lighting, and in-room dining. We also loved the enhanced storage and shelving in both the bedroom and bathroom to keep your personal items organized.

The beautifully lit bathrooms are a standout feature, with elegant shelves for your toiletries, stylish wallpaper, and unique pendant lights that create a retro yet ultra-luxe atmosphere.

These thoughtful touches make Wynn’s rooms feel like a luxurious home away from home, setting them apart from the majority of other hotels on the Strip.

Standard Suites: What most people will end up booking. These rooms have spaces for sleeping, lounging, dining, and working. Thoughtful details include large vanities and dedicated shelves in the bathroom, a welcoming foyer with full-length mirrors and convenient hooks.

  • Standard 1-King Resort Rooms at Wynn are 640 sq ft.
  • Standard 2-Queen Resort Rooms at Wynn are 640 sq ft.
  • Standard 1-King Resort Rooms at Encore are 745 sq ft.
  • Standard 2-Queen Resort Rooms at Encore are 745 sq ft.

Winner: Wynn.

Papu and I went back and forth on this one a lot. Ultimately, we both agreed that the rooms at Wynn are better all around (more luxurious, more high-tech, more thoughtful touches), but rooms at The Venetian / Palazzo are the better choice for larger groups of 5 or more.

The Venetian vs. Wynn: Location

The Venetian Palazzo
Courtesy of The Venetian

When it comes to location, both The Venetian and Wynn Las Vegas are situated on the north end of the Strip.

They are about a 5-10 minute walk away from each other, but keep in mind that walking in 90° to 100° F heat can make that short distance feel a whoooole lot longer.

Wynn is closer to hotels and landmarks further north, including Circus Circus, Resorts World, and the newly opened Fontainebleau Las Vegas. This makes it convenient if you’re planning to visit those northern Strip attractions.

On the other hand, The Venetian is closer to the walkway to The Sphere as well as hotels south of its location, like Treasure Island, Caesars, Harrah’s, and The LINQ. This more ‘central’ location makes it easier to get to more popular destinations on the Strip without having to trek too far.

Notably, The Venetian is also right next to Wynn Las Vegas. The proximity to Wynn is a pretty sweet perk if you like shows, fine dining, and nightlife. Walking to Wynn’s Awakening showXS NightclubEncore Beach Club, etc. is much easier to do from The Venetian/Palazzo compared to other hotels on the Strip.

For this category, we’re naming The Venetian the winner because its location is just a bit more central compared to Wynn.

Winner: The Venetian.

The Venetian vs. Wynn: Entertainment + Amenities

This section looks at what the hotels offer as a resort complex (Venetian + Palazzo vs. Wynn + Encore). We’ll also call out all the good stuff that’s included with your nightly resort fee.

Get ready for two long lists because there’s a ton of good stuff at both resorts.

Entertainment and Amenities at The Venetian / Palazzo

Combined, The Venetian and Palazzo house more than 2.3 million square feet of meeting space, 1 million square feet of retail space, 10 outdoor pools, and 40+ restaurants.

Here’s an example of the resort amenities and entertainment options that you’ll have easy access to no matter which tower you choose:

  • Grand Canal Shoppes: An extensive shopping mall with a variety of luxury retailers, dining options, and the unique ambiance of the recreated Venice canals.
  • Canal Gondola Rides: A signature experience where you can enjoy a ride on a gondola through the resort’s indoor and outdoor canals. More than 500,000 visitors ride the gondolas every year!
  • Canyon Ranch Spa: One of the largest and most luxurious spas in Las Vegas, offering a wide range of wellness services, fitness classes, and a 40-foot rock climbing wall.
  • Onsite dayclub and nightclub: TAO Beach Club is a hotspot during pool party season, while TAO Nightclub features top DJs and has a similar stature to other top nightclubs like XS (Wynn) and Marquee (The Cosmo).
  • Endless restaurant options: There are over 40 restaurants at your doorstep. Currently, five chefs of The Venetian and The Palazzo have received the coveted James Beard Award for culinary excellence: Wolfgang Puck, Mario Batali, Emeril Lagasse, Thomas Keller, and Daniel Boulud.
  • Shin Lim: The only person ever to win America’s Got Talent not once — but twice. Since the closing of The Mirage, the close-up magician now holds his residency at The Venetian.
  • Atomic Saloon Show: From the creators of Absinthe, this immersive adults-only variety show promises an unforgettable night of bold humor and outrageous entertainment.
  • A total of 10 outdoor pools: There are three at The Venetian and seven at The Palazzo.
  • Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum: A great little attraction for kids/teens and adults who like celebrities and pop culture.

Entertainment and Amenities at Wynn Las Vegas

  • Free parking for hotel guests: This is a biggie for people with cars. Most hotels on the Strip charge for parking. Wynn is one of the last hotels that still offer free parking to hotel guests.
  • Wynn Esplanade: A luxury shopping destination featuring high-end brands such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Rolex.
  • Wynn Golf Club: An 18-hole championship golf course designed by Tom Fazio and Steve Wynn.
  • Lake of Dreams: A free nighttime show featuring a 40-foot waterfall, 4,000 lights, horticulture, music, and dazzling holographics.
  • Awakening: The best show in town, and we really mean it when we say it! This new-and-improved production combines fantasy characters, larger-than-life costumes, choreography, original music and a thrilling new story.
  • Buffet at Wynn: One of the top seafood buffets on the entire Strip. We like this one even more than Bacchanal Buffet at Caesars.
  • Encore Beach Club: A premier dayclub that transforms into a nightclub, constantly featuring top DJs every weekend.
  • XS Nightclub: One of the most renowned nightclubs in Las Vegas known for top-tier DJs that attract partygoers from around the world.
  • Wynn Pools: Pools and cabanas that’ll make you feel like you’re living in the setting of Alice In Wonderland. Pool areas have adults-only pools, poolside lounges and lilypads for rent, and snack bars.
  • Wynn and Encore Spas: With two Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star Award-winning spas, Wynn Las Vegas invites guests to rejuvenate in luxurious surroundings. Both spas offer a comprehensive range of treatments, including massages, facials, and wellness therapies.
  • A state-of-the-art gym: This fitness center is the largest and most well-stocked one we’ve seen on the Las Vegas Strip! It’s got a cardio section, free weights area, weight machines, and even classes.

Winner: Wynn.

While both resorts have their own version of a premium nightly show, day club, and nightclub, the Wynn outshines The Venetian in a few other categories.

Wynn has an all-you-can-eat buffet and a much nicer gym compared to The Venetian. We also like the pool area at Wynn a lot better too. Shopping at Wynn is not that fun if you’re not on the hunt for luxury goods, but Fashion Show Mall (better for all kinds of budgets) is right across the street.

The Venetian vs. Wynn: Restaurants

Both resorts offer a ton of great places to eat, but there are some key differences. I’ll touch on Wynn first.

First and foremost, many of the restaurant options at The Wynn are world-famous. There’s SW Steakhouse, Wing Lei (a Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant), Mizumi for Japanese cuisine, and many other high-end dining options for guests to indulge and splurge at.

The Wynn gets extra points for having an onsite buffet — The Buffet at Wynn. This is hands-down our favorite buffet on the entire Las Vegas Strip!

But keep in mind, eating at the Wynn can be pretty pricey.

On the other hand, The Venetian/Palazzo complex really shines with its wide range of food options—you’ll find over 40 sit-down restaurants in total! This includes high-end spots like CUT by Wolfgang Puck, Bouchon by Thomas Keller, and Delmonico Steakhouse by Emeril Lagasse, Villa Azur, and LAVO.

But the appeal here is that not ALL the restaurants are high-end.

At The Venetian, you’ll also find more casual, budget-friendly places to eat in the Grand Canal Shoppes, like Yardbird, Buddy V’s Ristorante, CHICA, Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer, and Grand Lux Cafe, and even a food court with cheap eats like Johnny Rockets, Popeyes, Chipotle, and Panda Express.

With a diverse restaurant collection that caters to both fine diners and more budget-conscious eaters, The Venetian/Palazzo easily wins this category.

Winner: The Venetian.

The Venetian vs. Wynn: Price

When it comes to pricing, The Venetian is (in most cases) going to be the better deal. Unless you’re on Wynn’s email list and book during one of their sale windows, rooms at Wynn can be quite pricey.

For a couple looking to book a standard suite, room rates at The Venetian are almost always cheaper than those at the Wynn, unless there’s a special event happening at the resort during your trip dates.

For a group of 4-6 people, The Venetian also comes out on top. The rooms at Wynn can accommodate a maximum of 4 guests, whereas The Venetian’s suites can accommodate up to 6 guests. This makes a big difference in the per-person cost when you break it down.

Let’s break it down together with an example: Imagine both hotels have rooms costing $400 per night.

  • At Wynn, a group of 6 would need to book two rooms (as they only have 2-Queen rooms with no sofa bed), which would total $800 per night. Splitting this among 6 people means each person pays about $133.33 per night.
  • At The Venetian, the group of 6 can stay in one room (that sofa bed really comes in handy!), totaling $400 per night. Splitting this among 6 people means each person pays about $66.67 per night.

Our rule of thumb has always been that if we have a group of more than 4 people, we go with The Venetian/Palazzo.

The per-person cost drops dramatically by going with The Venetian over the Wynn. This makes The Venetian a no-brainer for larger groups who have a budget in mind.

As always, your results may vary. If you find yourself in a situation where you come across Wynn rooms going for less than Venetian/Palazzo rooms, you should probably book it ASAP! Chances are, you’ve stumbled on a good deal.

PRO TIP: Don’t forget to factor in resort fees and parking fees. Both hotels charge nightly resort fees. The Venetian also charges a daily parking fee, while Wynn still offers free parking to hotel guests.

Winner: The Venetian.

The Venetian vs. Wynn: Hotel Reviews

At the time of researching for this guide, here’s what we found when it came to user reviews on various hotel booking sites that we know and trust:

Hotel SiteThe VenetianWynn Las Vegas
Booking.com8.7/10
(12k+ reviews)
8.9/10
(2k+ reviews)
Hotels.com9/10
(17k+ reviews)
9.2/10
(‎9k+ reviews)
Priceline8.9/10
(15k+ reviews)
9.0/10
(‎3k+ reviews)

Even though there are way more reviews for The Venetian (which makes sense, it’s been around a lot longer than Wynn), Wynn is the one that gets the higher marks and ratings on most of the third-party booking sites.

This totally makes sense. Wynn is the reigning king in the hospitality world. Having stayed at both hotels ourselves, we’d agree with this overall rating.

Winner: The Wynn.

Overall Winner

It’s a tie. The Wynn won three categories (rooms, amenities / entertainment, and user reviews), and The Venetian won three categories (location, restaurants, price).

Since both hotels are top-notch options, we don’t have a clear-cut winner/loser situation. One hotel is better for some scenarios while the other is better for other situations.

So which is better — The Venetian or The Wynn?

Because both resorts offer so much to hotel guests (restaurant variety, shows, nightlife, award-winning spas, etc.), we think this decision really boils down to room size and budget.

If you’re traveling in a small group (no more than 4) and budget is of no concern to you, we’d recommend Wynn Las Vegas all the way.

Traveling as a larger group with a budget in mind? The Venetian / Palazzo is our go-to for groups who like staying in the same room. The Standard 2-Queen Suites at Palazzo are 720-square-feet, which is the largest we’ve found on the Las Vegas Strip when it comes to standard rooms.

Plus, both The Venetian and The Palazzo towers offer adjoining rooms, which is great if you want to stay connected with any additonal tripmates during your stay.

Still stuck between the two? If you really can’t pick between the two, you should just book whichever one is showing a cheaper price. Pocket your savings, spend it on one of Las Vegas’ new shows or attractions, or spend it on an epic seafood buffet.

The Bottom Line

We’ve stayed at both resorts on many occasions and have used the same rules we just gave you when it came down to picking between the two.

If we’re able to find a cheap rate for Wynn (usually during our weekday stays or during their promo sales), we book at Wynn.

If we’re planning a big trip with all of our friends, we book at The Venetian/Palazzo. It’s automatic at this point — we don’t even need to research anything else. It’s hard to find anything else this spacious for groups of 6+ at other hotels (without forking up a lot more money for upgraded suites, that is).

At the end of the day, both resort hotels are wonderful and will give you access to amazing amenities, so you really can’t go wrong with either.

No matter which you choose, you’re going to be treated to great service, plentiful dining options, and an all-around luxurious stay.
