Las Vegas For Solo Travelers: 15 Things To Do In Vegas Alone

While I’ve never done an entire Las Vegas trip alone, I have spent an entire day alone on the Strip. And it was a ton of fun! My main goal that day was to explore as many hotels on the Northern end of the Strip as I could. I started at Resorts World and ended at Caesars Palace.

Each hotel had its own myriad of things to do and see, so exploring just that handful of hotels took me at least five hours. Once I got to Caesars, I was honestly too tired to continue walking. So, I plopped down at a restaurant and enjoyed a solo meal until my ride was able to pick me up and bring me back to my hotel.

But my point is… a lot of fun can be had by exploring Las Vegas alone! If this is your first time exploring Las Vegas at all, exploring the Strip alone will take you at least 2-5 days, and that’s barely just scratching the surface.

This post will cover some of the best things to do as a solo traveler both on and off the Strip. You can go the touristy route and stay on the Strip, hop off the beaten path to visit local neighborhoods, or immerse yourself in some really amazing nature near Las Vegas.

Take a walking tour of Las Vegas

Exploring Las Vegas on foot as part of a guided walking tour means you get to spend 2+ hours listening and learning about all that Vegas has to offer from the perspective of a local guide.

A lot of walking tours in Vegas focus on helping visitors discover the popular places in Vegas like the Strip, Fremont Street, and various themed hotels without needing to engage in constant conversation.

Having said that, if you do want to chat, you’ll have the opportunity to strike up conversations with your fellow tour mates or even your tour guide!

Go on a guided pub crawl

While a pub crawl may sound like a social activity best done with friends, going on a guided one alone, with other people you’ve never met, can be quite liberating.

You have the freedom to enjoy each stop at your leisure, savoring drinks and mingling with others (as opposed to being cliqued up with people you already know).

Sure, you could go to the bars on your own, but being part of a pub crawl means you’ll be with like-minded people who are there to socialize too. You can more easily initiate conversations with other pub crawl participants, making it a great way to meet fellow travelers or locals who share your love for nightlife!

Explore AREA15

All the cool things to do at AREA15 don’t require other people’s presence for socialization. The immersive exhibits and art installations do all the talking!

Exploring this unique space alone allows you to fully immerse yourself in the attractions — without distractions. Really, this is a major benefit!

The first time I visited AREA15, I remember wanting to do EVERYTHING, but because the people in my group were not unanimously interested in doing anything in particular, I ended up not doing anything. We walked around, hung out at the bar for about 20 minutes, and just left. It was super lame!

Going alone means you can engage with the exhibits at your own pace, dive into virtual reality experiences, or simply wander through and take in the eclectic environment. The AREA15 world is your oyster!

See an exhibit on the Strip

The Strip is home to a variety of super interesting and educational exhibits showcasing a whole slew of topics like the Titanic, King Tut, Princess Diana, or the magic of the human bodies (there’s the Real Bodies exhibit as well as the Bodies…The Exhibit at Luxor).

Going solo to these exhibits gives you the freedom to take your sweet time and really dive into the subject matter at your own pace and absorb the information without distractions. If you’ve ever been to a museum with someone not interested in the topic, you know just how rushed you can feel!

You can take your time reading the exhibits, examining artifacts, and pondering the displays without feeling rushed one bit.

Wander through the hotels on the Strip

A good amount of hotels on the Las Vegas Strip are built with extravagant themes, ladled with high end architecture, art installations, and world-class restaurants/bars. Exploring them alone allows you to wander at your own pace and marvel at the opulent decor and attractions without having to coordinate with others or appease their needs.

Because let’s face it, exploring these resorts on foot is no joke — you can get pretty tired because of how large they are and how unsuspectingly far they are from each other!

Additionally, solo exploration gives you the flexibility to duck into any shops, restaurants, or entertainment venues that catch your eye along the way, no questions asked!

To get you started, I’d recommend checking these hotels off your list first: The Venetian (and the Grand Canal Shoppes), Caesars Palace (and The Forum Shops), and The Wynn/Encore. Because of how massive they are, you’ll easily be able to spend a few hours at each.

And even though Circus Circus Hotel is older, I still find it super fun to walk around the Midway carnival games area, catch the circus acts, and people-watch in there!

PRO TIP: Fair warning, all of the casinos look like they’re right next to each other on Google Maps, but it can take 10-15 minutes to get from one casino to the neighboring casino on the Strip. The blocks are massive, and sometimes crossing the street will require you to hop on a few pedestrian bridges.

Experience the show at The Sphere

If you’ve driven on the highways of Las Vegas, chances are you’ve seen The Sphere. The Sphere Experience is a two-part multi-sensory experience lasting approximately two hours. In all honesty, it’s two hours of immersive amazement.

And the best part is, you don’t even need to talk to anyone to have a good time!

Again, there are two parts to the experience. First, you’ll get to explore The Atrium. There’s a 360-degree avatar capture, a mesmerizing 50-foot holographic installation, and a few other cool tech features.

Then, brace yourself for an immersive cinematic experience unlike anything you’ve ever seen with Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Postcard from Earth.’ This specially commissioned film is a sci-fi portrait of our planet, leveraging Sphere’s cutting-edge technologies to transport you to new worlds without ever leaving your seat. 

Go on a foodie tour

Las Vegas is littered with good places to eat, both on the Strip and off-Strip! But if the options are just too overwhelming and eating at just one place is not enough, how about a food tour that hits 4-5 spots instead?

There are lots of food tours that will take you to hole-in-the-walls, restaurants on the strip, off the strip, and so much more. For an experience that touches on the most sought-after restaurants in Vegas, Secret Food Tours Las Vegas is great.

For hidden gems, hole-in-the-walls, and secret local hangouts, go with the Downtown Vegas Sightseeing and Foodie Tour.

Go to the ARTE Museum

If you’re looking to get off the Strip, one super cool place to check out is ARTE Museum. If you’ve ever been to Tokyo and experienced teamLab’s museums, this is very similar.

At ARTE Museum, you get to experience nature and technology coming together at their main exhibition called ‘ETERNAL NATURE’.

In this exhibition, you’ll see flowers that keep blooming thanks to special art technology, and you’ll feel the timeless beauty of nature through cool designs. But ARTE MUSEUM doesn’t stop at just visuals. You’ll be using your nose there too. Yup, there are actually scents tailored to each artwork that you get to experience while you’re here!

After exploring the museum for a few hours, you can head to the TEA BAR to enjoy sweet, tea-based mocktails.

Watch a Las Vegas show

Just like how watching a movie alone is perfectly fine these days, so is watching a Las Vegas show.

I’ve attended many shows in Vegas in the past — it’s really hard to get a word in unless there’s a scheduled intermission. These shows are usually jam-packed with action, humor, dancing, singing, and magic… too much so to even want to talk to the person next to you.

Here are some shows that are particularly enjoyable for solo travelers:

Awakening: A beautiful, dreamy, fantastical production featuring a captivating storyline, magical creatures, and a touch of comedy; playing at Wynn Las Vegas. I could watch this one over and over — I’m absolutely obsessed with it!

Absinthe: A unique blend of circus acts, burlesque, and comedy at Caesars Palace.

Penn & Teller: Known for their blend of magic, witty banter, comedy, and skepticism, Penn & Teller’s show at the Rio is a hit among solo travelers.

Paranormal Mind Reading Magic: International mentalist Frederic Da Silva, showcases the powers of his mind in his renowned show during an afternoon of mystery, magic, hypnosis, and mind reading.

Take a tour of the Grand Canyon

Going on a guided tour of the Grand Canyon from Vegas is going to grant you an adventure-packed day in the American Southwest.

Your tour will likely include several iconic stops along the way, such as the Hoover Dam, the historic Route 66, and the Grand Canyon’s South Rim.

At your final destination, you’ll have ample time to stroll along the rim, taking in the vastness of the canyon and capturing its beauty through your camera lens. Some tours also include a scenic helicopter ride over the canyon for a bird’s-eye view of the massive natural wonder!

Watch a sports game at the casino sportsbooks

Watching a sports game at the casino sportsbooks is a thrilling experience as it is, especially if you’re a fan of the sport or the teams playing. Doing this alone allows you to fully immerse yourself in the game without any distractions.

You can focus on the action, cheer for your team, and enjoy the excitement of the atmosphere with other sports fanatics around you. On big game days, you can definitely expect the casino sportsbooks to be filled with people and high energy!

Plus, many casino sportsbooks offer comfortable seating, big screens, and access to food and drinks, making it a perfect solo activity for sports enthusiasts.

Explore the Arts District

For a more local experience, leave the Strip behind and head to the Arts District. This up-and-coming little neighborhood has everything from third-wave coffee, art studios, vintage shopping, antique stores, breweries, and good restaurants.

You’ll find unique attractions here, such as the Burlesque Hall of Fame, The Arts Factory, Main Street Peddlers Antique Mall, and more.

What you decide to do is entirely up to your interests, but I’d highly recommend grabbing a coffee at Vesta Coffee Roasters, a slice of pizza at Good Pie, and/or uniquely English bites at Cornish Pasty Co.

If you happen to be in town on the first Friday of the month, the Arts District hosts its First Friday art walk with live music, local artists, food trucks, and activities.

Explore Downtown Container Park

For another local-style experience, head to Downtown Container Park — perhaps after you’ve finished up exploring the Arts District! Downtown Container Park is an open-air shopping center filled with boutique retail shops, various restaurants, and live entertainment.

Architecturally, this spot’s pretty unique as shipping containers have been turned into shops and restaurants.

Oh yeah, there is also a giant praying mantis that shoots out flames at the entrance (nighttime only)!

PRO TIP: From Downtown Container Park, you’re steps away from the rest of downtown Las Vegas. Walk the Fremont Street Experience (there are always free events taking place there), pop into a casino here and there to experience a side of Old Vegas, catch a game at Circa’s Stadium Swim, check out the businesses in Neonopolis, go to The Mob Museum, etc.

Go hiking at Red Rock Canyon

Unless you’re a diehard outdoor enthusiast, you probably haven’t heard of Red Rock Canyon. Red Rock Canyon gets its name from the unique ribbons of oxidized iron found in the rocks and mountains that appear in hues of red.

Located only 17 miles from the Strip, Red Rock Canyon is the perfect outdoor excursion for solo travelers who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Las Vegas. Red Rock Canyon features a one-way 13-mile scenic drive (a must-do in our opinion), various hiking trails, cool geology (like them red rocks), camping, and much more.

In terms of hiking, there are both easy and challenging trails to choose from, making this a great option if you want to burn off all those Las Vegas buffet calories. Some of the most popular hikes here include the Calico Tanks Trail (2.2 miles roundtrip), Turtlehead Peak Trail (4.6 miles roundtrip), and Ice Box Canyon Trail (2.3 miles roundtrip).

If you’d rather not deal with the logistics of how to get there (or want to visit the park without hiking), there are tour companies that will take you there and show you the park in all its glory.

Hike at Valley Of Fire State Park

Perhaps even cooler than Red Rock Canyon is Valley Of Fire State Park. This is my personal favorite when it comes to hiking near Las Vegas!

Located 50 miles away from the Strip (about 1 hour away from the Strip), Valley of the Fire SP sits patiently waiting for you in the Mojave Desert. Valley Of Fire State Park is by far my favorite hiking destination in the Las Vegas area because the natural formations in this park are drop-dead gorgeous!

Named for its distinctive red sandstone formations, Valley of Fire is a must-see for every hiker or adventurer that happens to be in Las Vegas. While you’re here, check out Native American petroglyphs (from the Anasazi people), the famous Atlatl Rock, and other stunning viewpoints.

If you only have time to do one hike, make it the 3.2-mile Fire Wave, White Domes, and Seven Wonders Loop. If you love hiking, make time to visit Valley Of Fire SP – you won’t regret it.

Other Things To Do In Las Vegas Alone

Here are some of the more obvious things you could do at your hotel/resort alone:

• Go for a jog on the Strip early in the morning when there are hardly any cars or other pedestrians
• Have a pool day
• Have a spa day: get a massage, workout at the gym, decompress with a book in the open spa areas (sauna, steam room, ice plunge, etc.)
• Park yourself at the slots, roulette, craps, or poker tables for a couple of hours
• Eat at one of the many nice restaurants (Las Vegas has great happy hours that are amazing for cheap on food/drink)
